BSC shines at Plantation Swim Meet

The Barracuda Swim Club shined at the recent Speedo Plantation Winter Championship meet, held in Plantation, Florida on November 17-20. Twenty swimmers from the Barracuda Swim Club along with Head Coach Sue Coleby and recently appointed Senior Coach Travano McPhee, participated in the Florida Swim meet.


Gershwin Greene the sole athlete in the 12 year category scored the highest number of points for the Barracudas, winning a gold medal in the 50 yard backstroke, a silver in the 100 yard backstroke, a bronze in the 50 yard free and a bronze in the 50 yard butterfly.

Ten year Izaak Bastian was the golden boy winning a gold medal in both of the 50 yard and 100 yard breaststroke.


The 10 and under boys team of Christopher Neil, Izaak Bastian, Samuel Gibson and Devante Carey won the bronze medal in the 200 yard medley relay.


Other finalists included Drew Bastian (13 years) who came in 4th in the 50 yard breastroke, 5th in the 100 yard breaststroke and 100 yard IM and 10th in the 50 yard free; Meshach Roberts who came 10th in the 200 yard backstroke; Samuel Gibson (10) came 5th in the 50 yard fly and 9th in the 100 yard fly; Amber Pinder (10) came 8th in the 50 yard backstroke and Devante Carey the sole 9 year old athlete came 7th in the 50 fly and 10th in the 100 breaststroke.


The Barracuda Swim Club participates in this meet annually as a preparation for swimmers seeking to make the national team for regional championships later in the swim season. The club looks forward to the reopening after many months of the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim complex to assist in the necessary training for our national swimmers.
